Well, the boys made it back from SD at 2 AM. Not surprising, considering that when our son heads for home--he flat out heads for home! :D
While they were out there, they got the basement wall shored up--which turned out to be a much bigger job than anticipated. But at least now we don't have to worry about the house falling into the basement (which was Plan A when we bought the place, before we decided it'd be so cute fixed up!)
We also have a First Class furnace installation, now. Totally professional--ducting in all the right places and all the right amounts and set up to add AC to, if we ever want to. Our kid sure does know his Craft!
All that work, and do you think the pair of them could remember a simple thing like taking even ONE picture of Jared with the house???? All I asked for was ONE LOUSY PICTURE on his phone!!!! :( They got pics of the work they did! Men!
So, if I understand it right, the next plan is to gather up the dogs and gear and head back out West, while our son jumps head first into finding a decent job. It looks like his old job has just dried up and blown away.... Keith won't be getting a paying job any time soon. There aren't many road jobs going on in the mud...and some of the mud is several feet below the water level right now. :( So we can sit here watching the unemployment and tax refund dwindle away or go back out and put a ceiling in the house. The supplies are out there--might as well "get-er-done"!
Here we are, sitting on our hill! We have wheels, but we're not movin' right now!

Meanwhile, out in Kadoka
Father & son left Monday to go spend a couple of weeks working on the "shack". Last nite DH calls up want more money, already!!! One round of 'big box stores' and a few gas stops and it's gone! I told them to get to work and when they run out of supplies and need more--then they should call. :D I figure by then it'll be time for them to head back this way and all they'll need is food and gas money.
Meanwhile, I've got the bedroom torn up--cleaning and eliminating. There are way too many old items of clothing taking up space. And the old SHOES! The man does not get the concept of one in and one out. Still got his last 3 pair of boots.... *sigh*

hoopla
Am I the only one who doesn't feel that dancing in the streets is an appropriate reaction to the death of our enemy? It's more like "we've lopped of the head of the snake" but there is probably another one in charge already.

Now we've gone and done it!
After looking at ad after ad for old motorhomes, and making trips to look at a few, we brought one home! I'm not sure, yet, if that's a good thing--or a bad thing. Time will tell....

She's a tiny little rig...1985 Diamond, 21'. Needs a facelift, a bit of 'open heart surgery', etc. --not to mention a major change in the potty/shower facility! But compared to trying to spend time in a truck camper, she's a palace! Right now, we'll just call her "Our Diamond in the Rough" . :)
I think what sold her to us was the pair of notebooks, hand-written by the owner, detailing everywhere they'd gone, stopped for gas, had repair work done, fired up the generator or had work done on it.... He had recorded EVERYTHING since the day he bought it, back in 2001! The last straw was when he said he'd intended to take it to get a new muffler, so he dropped the price to pay for that! :D
So, she's sitting in our son's barn (there is a leak that needs addressed!) until the guys get back from their SD trip. I hate having a new toy that I can't play with right away! They plan to leave tomorrow, if Keith can figure out why my freshly overhauled car is overheating today. (Nothing serious--seems the mechanic put the new thermostat in BACKWARDS.)
(Update: There wasn't just one leak--when Keith took the side off he found much rotten framework. We'll not be traveling anywhere in that little RV any time in the next year or so....)
Meanwhile, back to packing. He wants to take all 3 pair of his bibbees--which probably means I'll be washing today's pair tonite! Still gotta dig up a sleeping bag and heater, since they'll be camping out in our SD shack until they get the furnace up and running--and it's still getting down to freezing at nite out there!
